AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Rita (Church) Dwyer age 90 of Steinman Ave., Middlebury, died Friday October 8, 2010 at her home. She was the widow of Ellsworth Dwyer.
Rita was born August 6, 1920 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Murphy) Church and lived in Middlebury since 1963. She was a graduate of Wilby High School. Prior to her retirement in 1971, Rita was employed as an inspector at Scovill Manufacturing where she worked for over 10 years. Rita was a Literacy Volunteer, a volunteer at Middlebury Convalescent Home and an aide in the Middlebury School System. She was a communicant of Saint John of the Cross church where she also served as a Eucharistic minister and was a former member of the church council.
She leaves two sons, Michael K. Dwyer and his wife Evelyn of Prospect, Ronald S. Dwyer of Middlebury, a daughter Mary Ponzillo and her husband Anthony of Waterbury, a brother Robert Church of Waterbury, a sister Virginia Hotchkiss of Waterbury, seven grandchildren, Melissa, Mark, Colin, Timothy, Molly, Brian, Sarah and two great grandchildren, Julia and James. She was predeceased by a son Gerald Dwyer and two sisters Agatha Tanner and Theresa Hatch.
Funeral Monday at 10 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville to Saint John of the Cross Church for Mass at 11. Burial will follow in Middlebury Cemetery.
