Loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather

WATERBURY - Mr. Robert A. Filippone, 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, after a long illness.

He was born on January 30, 1930, in Waterbury, to the late Anthony and Lena (Tocchio) Filippone. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, Robert attended Sts. Peter & Paul Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, graduated from Crosby High School, and attended Post College. He was in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight years. His occupation, to which he was so dedicated, was a police officer for the City of Waterbury for 39 years. He faithfully served the city until his retirement in 1991, at which time he was honored as Policeman of the Year. Robert was a parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and was a member of the Waterbury Police Mutual Aid, the Waterbury Police and Firefighters Retirees Association, the Evergreen Club, and AARP. He enjoyed listening to WATR, reading the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper daily, and watching football, basketball, baseball, WWE wrestling, daily mass, game shows, classic movies, and home improvement shows. He was very proud of his yard and spent many hours outside raking, mowing, and maintaining the yard to keep it looking tidy. He enjoyed going out to feed the birds after dinner each night and made it a priority to keep our feathered friends well fed. He also enjoyed spending time with family at celebrations and holiday gatherings, as well as dining out at local restaurants to show his support.

Robert is survived by his children, Carol Pelletier and her husband, Michael, of Northfield, Michael Filippone of Ocala, FL, and Susan Filippone of Southbury; his brother, Francis Filippone of Prospect; his sister, Sr. Claire Filippone of West Hartford; his three beloved grandchildren, Stephen Pelletier, Christine Sabella and Tyler Galgano; his five precious great-grandchildren, William and Emma Pelletier, Oliver, Judah and Maya Sabella; and several nieces and nephews who were dear to him. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Theresa (Kuibeda) Filippone.
