AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME: WATERBURY CT. Mr. Robert Leo Cruess, 89 of Waterbury, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of MaryAlice (Stokes) Cruess, to whom he was married for 68 years.
Mr. Cruess was born November 1, 1921 in Waterbury, the son of the late Leo F. and Hazel (Rice) Cruess. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School, Crosby High School and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute until he enlisted in the US Army during WWII where he was a Staff Sergeant in the 112th Infantry Regiment 28th Infantry Division. He proudly participated, endured and survived combat including the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
