Proud of his Family and Irish Heritage
WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness and grief that the family of Robert E. McGann, age 76, of Waterbury, announce his passing on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit of St Mary’s Hospital surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was the husband of Beverly (Boughton) McGann for 57 years.
Bob was born on April 21, 1947, in Waterbury, the son of the late Francis and Gertrude (Norris) McGann. He was a graduate of Eli Whitney High School in New Haven, then went on to work his way from electrician on up to electrical engineer at Ansonia Copper and Brass where he retired after 47 years of faithful service. Bob was a volunteer fireman and past captain for Storm Engine Co./Ambulance Corps Co. 2. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, loved cooking, gardening especially tending to his tomato plants. Bob was an ardent fan of all things Boston, which included the Celtics, Red Sox, and Bruins. Bob was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers, and he was a lifelong dog lover, always outside in the yard playing fetch. Bob was exceptional in almost every way but he excelled the most at being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Nothing made Bob happier than being surrounded by his family. He will be forever missed by all those who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to cherish his memory besides his wife, Beverly are his children, Maureen McGann, Colleen Burgmyer (Thaddeus), and Robert McGann (Boni), his ten grandchildren; Richard (Melissa), Michael (Malwina), Bethany, William, Madison, Trinity, Kennedy, Darby, Bailey, and Connor, great granddaughter Ella, Sister Judy Serben (Walt), sister-in-law, Alice McGann, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
