Robert J. O'Connor - age 79 formerly of Sherwood Dr, Prospect died peacefully Sunday April 11th at Glendale Heath Care center surrounded by his family after an extended illness.
Mr. O'Connor was born April 19th 1930 the son of the late Francis and Margaret (McIlroy) O'Connor. He grew up in the east end of Waterbury where he attended Saints Peter and Paul Grammar school, and Crosby High School where he was the captain of the swim team. He received a Bachelors of Science while attending UCONN and was a state certified Pharmacist. Robert spent many years working as a pharmacist for Martin's drug store and later on his own at Scripco East, serving the East End community as one of their local pharmacist. He had many hobbies and interests including sailing, woodworking, book collecting, chess, gardening, and bird watching. He had a special talent for building rock walls. Most importantly, he was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather who will be remembered for his quick wit and often sarcastic humor.
Among his survivors are his former wife Shirley O'Connor mother of his son Robert O'Connor of Harwinton, CT and of his three daughters Shaun O'Connor of Tucson, AZ; A. Jamie O'Connor of Ryegate, VT; and Moira O'Connor-Ploski of Prospect; his two sisters Eleanor O'Connor of Cheshire and Rosemary Lawlor of Waterbury; his grandchildren Katie Zuna; Liam, Caleb, and Mairead O'C-Genereaux; and Julia and Kayla O'Connor. He is pre-deceased by his brother Francis E. O'Connor and his four sisters Marguerite O. Klein, (his twin) Elizabeth Lesnikoski, Kathleen Trota, and Eileen Murphy.
Funeral Services for Robert will be held on Saturday May 29th 2010 at Saints Peter and Paul Church (45 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury). Friends and Family are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m. directly at the church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will held at the convenience of the family. On Friday evening May 28th from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. A memorial gathering will be held at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home (1581 East Main St).
