THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF ROBERT OLSON
"Bob the Builder"
WATERTOWN - Robert Olson, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Apple Rehabilitation in Watertown, CT.
Robert was born December 29, 1927 in Oakville, CT to Julia (Carey) Olson and Arthur Clarence Olson. Robert, known lovingly as "Bob-the-Builder", built houses with his father and two uncles before working at Oakville Pin Shop (Scovill Manufacturing) until his retirement in 1987 after 36 years. He was a lifetime member of Union Congregational Church where he served as a Deacon. He also volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America. He enjoyed his times at the Senior Center, playing bingo or cards, and having lunch with friends. Robert was extremely proud of reaching the goal of donating 20 gallons of blood in his lifetime.
Robert joins his wife, Laura, to whom he was married for 57 years, at the gates of Heaven. He leaves to cherish his memory his four daughters: Judith Boss (Ben) of Bomoseen, VT, Laura Hicks of Waterbury, CT, Ellen Thomas (Richard) of Plainville, CT, and Dawn Hinman (George) of Oakville, CT. He had 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.
He was the sweetest person who always put his family before himself. Greatest father, step-father, grandfather, great grandfather, aka Papa, and great great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. His family will miss him.
Robert's family wishes to acknowledge and thank his second family who took care of him at Apple Rehab for the wonderful, excellent, loving caretakers who had him in their lives for the last 7 years where he was lovingly known as Bob-the-Builder.
Due to the current rise in the COVID-19 infection rate, there will be a service to honor Robert held and announced later in 2021. O'Neill Funeral Home has been honored to care for Robert and his family during this difficult time. To honor Robert's memory, and in lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's name to a local blood bank are encouraged and appreciated. Memories endure only if you share them, so you are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort or a personal memory with the Olson family on Robert's tribute page at oneillfuneralhome.com.
