CT State Retiree and devoted Father

WATERBURY – Robert “Bob” Parziale, aged 61, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at St Mary’s Hospital.

Bob was born on August 18th, 1960, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the only child of Maria (Cozza) Parziale and Michele Parziale of Torella Dei Lombardi, Italy. He attended Saint Lucy’s Grammar School in Waterbury and continued on to Holy Cross High School. He studied at Mattatuck Community College (now Naugatuck Valley), and transferred to Central Connecticut State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in marketing and accounting.

He started his career as a Correctional Officer for the State of CT assigned to the New Haven Correctional Center. Upon his transfer to the Cheshire Correctional Complex, Bob became active in union activities and served several terms as Treasurer of AFSCME Council 4 (Local 387). Following his retirement from state service, Bob enjoyed traveling with his daughter, Olivia, and his fiancé, Lonnie Cavanaugh. They traveled to places like Arizona, California, Florida, Rhode Island, Virginia, and to many other destinations across the US and Europe. His favorite place to go was to the beach in Westerly, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod.

As Olivia entered high school, Bob went back to his union duties and started working as a service representative at AFSCME Council 4 in New Britain, CT, which he continued to do until his passing. He was looking forward to retirement between his lifelong home in Waterbury and new home in Middlebury, CT. Bob was an avid New York Rangers, NY Giants, and NY Mets fan, and found every opportunity to attend games especially on opening day. He loved to grill, golf, eat and drink good food and wine, and listen to his favorite music and attend concerts. He loved a good joke and to spend time with his closest friends and family. Bob was a dedicated parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church as well as the Immaculate.

Bob leaves behind his beloved daughter, Olivia, and his fiancé, Lonnie Cavanaugh. Olivia and Lonnie would like to acknowledge the friends and family members that Bob leaves behind: the Hermsted families of Long Island, Cozza family of New Jersey, Parziale families of California and Ohio; Steve, Elaine, and Marissa Jacovich of Middlebury, Connecticut; Don and Loretta Sevas of Wallingford, CT and Jeanne Creem and her family of Waterbury, CT. He was cherished by the vast Cavanaugh family and the remaining Parziale and Cozza families in Italy.

Olivia and Lonnie would also like to thank Bob’s healthcare providers through the years: Alliance Medical Group of Middlebury, Saint Mary’s Hospital, and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
