May 25, 1937 — October 3, 2022

WATERBURY – Mr. Robert Segal, age 85, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, October 3, 2022, surrounded by the love and care of his family after an extended illness.
Mr. Segal was born on May 25, 1937, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late David and Mary (Hennessey) Segal. A lifelong Waterbury resident, he came from very humble beginnings having lost his father at an early age. Bob had to step into the shoes of his father and he proudly served as “man of the house” He was educated in local schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1956. He became a proud member of the Waterbury Police Department in 1959 where he served for forty years. During his long tenure, Bob worked in several divisions as Commander and Acting Commander including Acting Deputy Superintendent and Acting Superintendent. For the majority of his time was served as Captain of the Detective Bureau where he excelled as an investigator of major crimes. Bob was a well-liked, well-respected, and decorated member of the department. As a friend, he was always present when others needed help and support at any time of day or night. His tireless commitment to his career, the Waterbury Police Department, and the City of Waterbury was matched only by his dedication to his family. His life was a blessing, and his memory will be a treasure. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Bob had more friends than anyone could imagine, and he loved to socialize. He loved Broadway, where he’d always find a way to meet the actors as well as attending concerts at the Oakdale. He was an avid New York Yankees fan throughout his life. He was a member of the Elks, B.P.OE. # 265 and enjoyed bowling and card leagues there. Bob enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus to entertain children. He was truly a man for all seasons.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children; his son, David E. Segal and his wife Barbara of Waterbury, his daughters; Cheryl Segal and Marlene Schaffner both of Waterbury, his sister; Marlene Lawson, and her husband, Joseph of Waterbury and his beloved and devoted grandchildren: David, Katie, Robert, Shawn, Zachary, and Victoria “Tori”. He also leaves two great-grandchildren: Melia and Livianna.
