Waterbury, CT. Robert J. Zabit Sr. age 80, of Townsend Ave, Waterbury died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Irene (Bellemare) Zabit.
Bob was born March 23, 1928 in Waterbury, the son of the late Peter and Tharsille (Audet) Zabit. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar and High School and was a toolsetter at Scovill Mfg./Century Brass for more than 50 years, retiring in 1990. Bob was a devoted husband and father and was the family "organizer", coordinating all family functions such as reunions and get togethers. He was a renowned storyteller but his passion in retirement was golf. An active member of the East Mountain Golf Association he could be found there on any given day enjoying the companionship of his many friends. He was an avid UCONN Basketball fan and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan as well. He was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Besides his loving wife of 58 years Irene, Bob is survived by his three children, Robert J. Zabit Jr. and his wife Paula of Plymouth, James "Jim" Zabit and his wife Sue of Bethlehem and Janet Morin and her husband John of Wolcott. He also leaves two brothers, Thomas Zabit of Durham and George Zabit of Goshen and a sister, Ruth LeStage of Waterbury and six grandchildren, John Morin Jr., Lindsay and Matthew Morin, Jennifer, Karly and Lauren Zabit as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Zabit will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 9:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm.
