Member of the Connor Family of Waterbury’s Baseball Royalty
ROME NY - Roger Dennis Connor III, of Rome, New York, passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends on August 21, 2024 at St Joseph’s Medical Center in Syracuse NY.
Roger was born September 14, 1955 in Waterbury, CT and is direct descendant of his famous great uncle, Roger Connor, a Waterbury baseball legend and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Class of 1976. Following graduation from Wolcott High School in 1973, Roger trained at the Great Lakes Naval Base as a Navy Corpsman. After serving in the Navy, Roger worked in a variety of different fields, and lived in various places including Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee, California, and New York. Having faced and overcome personal addiction issues, Roger became actively involved with helping others, especially through AA and obtained Substance Abuse Counselor certification in 2009. He spent much of his adult life in Monterey, CA. During this time, he reconnected with his son after almost 15 years and was able to help care for his elderly parents with his sister, Debra. In 2015, Roger retired and moved to Rome, NY fulfilling his dream of living close to his son and family. Roger enjoyed music, the Mets, playing cards with the guys and the company of his son, Roger, grandson, Fernando, step-grandchildren Ramon and Lily, and his very good friend William Gruby. After a stroke in late 2021, Roger spent his last years in the caring and comfortable community of New Burton Homestead in Rome.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Laurene (Mulpeter) Connor and stepmother, Vilma (Petronio) Connor. Roger is survived by his son, Roger D. Connor IV and his wife, Lauren, and grandson, Fernando Connor of Rome, NY. Roger is also survived by his five siblings and their spouses, Debra and Theodore Kaczmar of Monterey, CA., Richard and Lana Lebel of New Bedford, MA, Kevin and Regina Connor of Eastham, MA, Lori and David Dietsch of Kensington, CT, and Mark and Marta Connor of Glen Carbon, IL as well as nine nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Connor will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 when visitation and a Prayer service will be held at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT from 11 am – 1 pm. Burial in the family plot of Old St Joseph’s Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
