AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY ??" Mrs. Rosemarie Louise (Francis) Rizk, 75, went home to God on November 2, 2009 at Beacon Brook Healthcare in Naugatuck. She was the daughter of the late Virginia and Louis Francis of Waterbury; the trusted wife of George, to whom she was married for 54 years before his passing one year ago; the cherished mother of Bernice Jude Rizk of Naugatuck; the loyal sister to Bernice Corbo of Wolcott and the precious "Nana" of Sarah Ann Rizk and Jason Fouad Rizk of Naugatuck.
Mrs. Rizk was born in Danbury CT on June 23, 1934, and graduated from Slocum Elementary and Crosby High Schools in Waterbury. She co-owned and operated George's Pharmacy in Cheshire with her late husband for 44 years. She and George made their home and family in the Brass City, living in the Overlook, Bunker Hill, and most recently, Town Plot areas. A proponent of education and hard work, Rosemarie took the utmost pride in an appointment she received by the late Connecticut Governor Ella T. Grasso, when she was elected to the Board of Trustees for State Technical Colleges and the Board of Governors. Rosemarie worked tirelessly for a decade in support of the Colleges' missions of education and improving students' performances. Her Italian and Lebanese heritages combined to form a woman brimming with joy and a zest for cooking and life in general. She was well known particularly for her delicious antipasto, which was requested at parties and events too many times to count throughout her life.
Rosemarie adored being surrounded by her friends and family, with her mantra being "I love you more," unless, of course, one challenged her admiration of the Yankees. Even though members of her extended family are Red Sox fans, she "still loved [you] more," never letting go of her conviction that love should forever be shared. She always had the last word on matters of the heart, having an unwavering faith and devotion in God's plan.
An avid artist and enthusiast of flowers, Rosemarie painted in oils and was recognized numerous times for her work. A portrait she created of Waterbury's City Hall hung in that building during the 1970s. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she actively volunteered and was a member of the Forever Young Club. She also was a member of the Legion of Mary and did volunteer work and fundraising for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Connecticut State Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, among others. Rosemarie was a Third Order Carmelite, a group of lay people who, in response to a special call from God, live in the spirit and follow the direction of the Blessed Mother and St. Therese of Lisieux (St. Therese of the Little Flower).
In addition to her daughter, sister, and grandchildren, Rosemarie also leaves her son-in-law Fouad Hassib Rizk of Naugatuck; brother-in-law, Salvatore Corbo of Wolcott; sister-in-law, Matilda Rizk Mubarek of Winsted, dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends, including her adored Cockapoo dog, Brandy.
