Roy Ellsworth Dilger

AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Roy Ellsworth Dilger age 87 of Oakville died Monday February 22, 2010 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Maxine Pearl (Longley) Dilger and the fiancée of Tillie Brinkman of Oakville.

Roy was born September 16, 1922 in Waterbury, a son of the late Albert Lewis and Violet (Minicucci) Dilger and lived in Oakville most of his life. He grew up in Thomaston and was a graduate of Thomaston High School Class of 1941 where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.

He married Maxine Pearl (Longley) Dilger of Caribou, ME on June 4, 1943. Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Second Class. He received an honorable discharge on February 12, 1952 after six years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 7330 in Oakville and was a past president of the American Legion Post 195 in Watertown. Prior to his retirement in 1987, Roy was employed at WPM of Waterbury as a screw machine setup operator. He had also worked at Vickors of Waterbury as a screw machine operator for over 15 years. Roy was very active at Thomaston Lanes in Thomaston, having spent many years on various teams and served as president and secretary for many of the leagues. He was also an avid golfer and played in several tournaments and in several leagues.

He was an active member at the Falls Avenue Senior Center, dedicating most of his time to the activities that support the center. He enjoyed dancing and singing. He was voted in the top 10 for the Health Net Seniors, a singing contest that helps support the center. He was vice president of the newly formed Falls Avenue Senior Corporation that assists and supports the activities at the Senior Center.

Besides his fiancée, he leaves two sons, Richard Dilger of Naugatuck, Warren Dilger of Waterbury, two daughters; Linda Bulman of Georgia, Doreen Dilger of Oakville, a sister Adeline Bolton of Thomaston, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Roy will be held on Saturday February 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 262 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779.
