WATERBURY - Mrs. Ruth Ciarlo, age 86, formerly of Wolcott, passed away Thursday February 13 2014 at Glendale Health Care Center in Naugatuck after an extended illness. She was the widow of Rocco G. Ciarlo.
Ruth was born May 11, 1927 in Bronx NY, the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Maglio. She grew up in the Bronx where she was educated in local schools. Ruth was a loving and dedicated homemaker and also assisted her husband with his business, "Ciarlo Monumental Works of Waterbury" for many years. Ruth always looked forward to weekly poker tournaments with her friends and enjoyed taking trips to the casino. She also enjoyed preparing Sunday macaroni dinners for her family and taking bi-weekly trips to Ferrara's Bakery in Little Italy, New York, where she would sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with her husband, Rocco.
The Ciarlo family would like to express their thanks and acknowledge the dedicated staff at Glendale Health Care for the loving, compassionate care they provided to Ruth during the 13 years she spent there.
Among her survivors are her son, Rocco Ciarlo and his wife Betsy of Waterbury with whom Ruth shared her home, prior to her illness and her daughter, Lucy Horenstein and her husband Lewis of Berlin, CT. She also leaves a sister Louise Triano of Bronx, NY, her grandchildren; Amy and Matthew Ciarlo and Alysha and Emily Warren, several close friends especially Theresa DiPrimio as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Maglio and her sister, Joan "Junie" Prime
Funeral services for Mrs. Ciarlo will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours. Eastside Memorial, a Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury has been entrusted to assist the family with the arrangements.
