Active in several Chapters of Eastern Star
WALLINGFORD - Mrs. Ruth (Smith) Collins, Botelle, Crawford, age 87 of Wallingford, formerly of Edgewater FL and Oakville Ct, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Masonicare Health center after an extended illness. She was the widow of George Botelle and Donald Crawford.
Mrs. Crawford was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin on October 15, 1931. She was the daughter of Ernest and Rose (Stricker) Smith. Mrs. Crawford proudly served her country in the U.S. Airforce as a Sargent stationed in Colorado Springs CO. In her early years, she was employed as a Nurses Aide at Waterbury Hospital and then as a licensed barber with a home salon in Oakville. After moving to Edgewater FL in 1988 she worked as a secretary at the Tomoka Correctional Institute, a maximum security prison in Daytona Beach FL. At age 75, she graduated from Daytona Beach Community College with an Associate's Degree in sociology. She was a longtime member of the Union Congregational Church in Oakville and the United Methodist Church in Edgewater. Ruth was a proud member of the Volunteer Civilian Aided Police (CAP) in Florida. Ruth was a past Worthy Matron in both the Watertown and New Smyrna Beach Order of the Eastern Star Chapters and was recently a member of the Wallingford chapter. Ruth loved life to the fullest through the simple pleasures of life. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Among her survivors are her children; Linda Fisher and her husband, Charles of Watertown, Daniel Collins and his wife Doreen of Northfield and David Collins-Rivera and his wife Debbie of Show Low AZ. as well as her step son, James Botelle of FL. She also leaves a sister, Estelle Czubin of South Milwaukee Wisconsin and her grandchildren; Stephen (Sue) Widuch, Matthew (Stacy) Fisher, Karl (Alison) Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Sara Collins, Emmitt Collins-Rivera and great grandchildren Mallory, Rosemary, Emma and Sadie. Mrs. Crawford was predeceased by her brother Irvin Smith and sister Irene Smith.
A Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Crawford will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St.@Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Burial will be in Florida at a later date. Relatives and friends may visit with Ruth's family on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Masonic Charity Foundation of CT, P.O.
