Beloved Mother and grandmother
WATERBURY– Ruth Suzanne Gorman, age 89, of Thomaston, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at The Vitas Hospice Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was the widow of Patrick J. Gorman.
Ruth was born November 10, 1933, in Danbury, CT, the daughter of the late Alfred and Ethel (Goodsell) Reed. Ruth was a long-time resident of Waterbury and was an active parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church where she was the former treasurer of the Madonna Guild. She also enjoyed coaching baseball for Saints Peter and Paul School, leading them to a championship win in 1965. Ruth was extremely active in the Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts and received the Bronze Pelican Award from Archbishop O’Brien in recognition of founding cub scouts Pack 219 at Saints Peter and Paul Church. Ruth enjoyed reading and baking and spent over 52 years working at Saint Mary’s Hospital, retiring as a switchboard operator. There was nothing more important to Ruth than her family. Ruth was exceptional in almost every way, but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Our family thanks you, mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us, and the unending love you instilled in all of us.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children; Patrick and his wife, Darcie of Laguna Beach, CA, Daniel of Watertown, Laura and her partner Bridget Tartaro of Naugatuck, Andrew and his wife, Philomena of Waterbury, and Ruth Haines and her husband, John of Kirtland, OH. She also leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Gorman, and daughter-in-law, Linda (Veronneau) Gorman.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gorman will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Church Parish, Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury.
