HONORING AND REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF RUTH LABECK.

WATERTOWN - Ruth J. (Smith) Labeck, age 91 of Watertown, after several months of declining health, passed away on May 3, 2022 at the River Glen Health Care Center, in the presence of her loving family. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph M. Labeck, Sr.

Ruth was born on October 16, 1930 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Bernard and Nora (Daley) Smith. Ruth lived in Waterbury during her childhood before settling in Watertown after her marriage where she raised her family. She was educated at St. Margaret Grammar School, Waterbury, and was a proud graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School. She was a L.P.N. and retired from St. Mary's Hospital where she cared for countless newborns in the nursery for many years. In 1990, Ruth moved to Georgia after her retirement and lived there for 21 years with her husband Joe before returning to Watertown 11 years ago. She was a faithful communicant of Saint John the Evangelist Church, Watertown, CT. For Ruth, her family and her faith were her most treasured assets. Her love for her family, friends, and God were boundless. She was a strongly independent woman with a keen wit who lived a faith filled life with tremendous compassion for others. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.


Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memories are her children Joseph Labeck, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Watertown, John Labeck and his wife Kathleen of Watertown, Patricia Daveluy and her husband Dennis of Arden, NC, Betsy Casey and her husband Thomas of Middletown, James Labeck and his wife Susan Whalen of Charlestown, MA., ten grandchildren Joseph Labeck III and his wife Tanya, Meghan Labeck, Emily Kolatsky and her husband Thomas, John Labeck, Jr. and his wife LeAnne, Robert Labeck, Meredith (Daveluy) Specht and her husband Kyle, Erin (Casey) Eisner and her husband Charlie, Jenna Casey, Cameron and Christian Labeck, four great-grandchildren Liberty, Jack and Kahlin Labeck, and Jameson Specht, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Arlene Schell.


Funeral services for Ruth will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main Street, Watertown. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held immediately after the Funeral Mass in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 669 Platt Road, Watertown, CT. Relatives and friends may visit with Ruth's family on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville.
