Naugatuck ?" Sandra A. Cyr-Garceau, age 64, died peacefully Wednesday, September 30th at Griffin Hospital in Derby, surrounded by her family after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
Mrs. Garceau was born January 10th 1945 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Rannie Sr. and Alice (Fortier) Cyr. A lifelong resident of Naugatuck, she was educated in local schools and worked for nearly 30 years at the Marathon Health Care Center of Prospect, formerly known as Country Manor Health Care, as a certified nursing assistant and was planning to retire this coming January. She had a special place in her heart for the all of the residents at the nursing home and considered them to be her second family even inviting them to her home for special occasions and holidays. She enjoyed spending time at Milford beach but always seemed happiest surrounded by and relaxing with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Among her survivors are her son, Alexander Kemes Jr. of Naugatuck, her three daughters, Cheryl Senese of Bethlehem, Lori Dube of Naugatuck, and Brenda Daly of Naugatuck. She also leaves her three brothers, Timothy Cyr of North Carolina, Richard Cyr of Cape Cod, and Paul Johnson of Wolcott, her sister, Pricilla Maynard of Naugatuck eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Rannie Cyr, and sisters, Debra Sprague, and Diane Kapustey.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Garceau will be held on Monday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Vincent's Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Rd (RT 63) Naugatuck. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be follow in All Saints Cemetery, Spring Lake Rd., Waterbury. Visiting hours for Mrs. Garceau are scheduled for Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury.
