OAKVILLE - Sandra (Johnson) Shiflett, 90, of Oakville (formerly of Kent), passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2023 at the Complete Care at Middlebury. She was the wife of the late Randol E. Shiflett.
Sandra was born in New Haven on October 12, 1933 to the late William and Kathryn (Peters) Johnson. She graduated from Hillhouse High School and went on to study physical education at Sargent College in Boston, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1955. She enjoyed being outdoors and participating in different sports that included lacrosse, fencing, and horseback riding. Sandra was involved in Girl Scouts both as a young camper and later as a Girl Scout Leader and Camp Director. She fulfilled her Girl Scout career as the director at Camp An-Se-Ox in Oxford, in 1978. Not only did she enjoy summer campouts but winter camping as well. Sandra’s true passion was travel. Later in life, Sandra and her mother made trips abroad to France, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, and Greece. Sandra earned her credentials as a Travel Agent and continued to travel to Russia, Morocco, Kenya, Scandinavia, Iceland, Ireland, and across the United States and Canada. In addition to travel, Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking gourmet meals, Shopping, and reading both fiction and non-fiction novels.
Sandra is survived by her brother, William Johnson and his wife Maryanne of Wall, NJ. Her sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Prospect, and Eleanor Johnson of Monmouth Beach NJ. Her three daughters; Deborah Shiflett of Kent, Cynthia Barrett of Sequim, WA and Judith Lynch and her husband Jeff of Oakville. Four grandchildren; Dillion Fitton and his wife Jenny of Orlando FL, Elizabeth Fitton of West Barnstable, MA, Deanna Lynch of Middletown and Kathryn Lynch of Orlando, FL. One great-grandson; Julian Fitton of Orlando and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sandra was predeceased by her brother Gerald Johnson, her nephew Robert Johnson, and son-in-law Larry Barrett.
The family wishes to send their deepest appreciation to all the healthcare professionals and staff at Complete Care at Middlebury for their kindness and compassionate care of Sandra. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the comfort care professionals at Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
