"Loving Sister, Aunt, Respiratory Therapist"
WATERBURY- Sandra Anne Spino, age 69, left us on Friday, April 30, 2021 surrounded by those who loved her in the critical care unit of St. Mary's Hospital.
Sandra was born in Waterbury on April 24, 1952. She was the first child born to the late George and Anne (Hodovanik) Spino. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Carol Burgos and her husband Jaime, her brother James and his wife Mary, and her dearest brother George with whom she shared her home and all of life's daily joys and struggles. Also left to grieve her loss is her cherished niece Wendy L. Burgos and her two daughters Matteá and Anya.
Sandie worked for many years at Timex before returning to school and graduating from Mattatuck Community College. As a compassionate Respiratory Therapist she cared for many before her own health issues prompted her early retirement. Although Sandie's life was filled with much hardship, she remained a person of faith and love. Her heart was huge and her love was real. She always loved the company of friends and family. In better times she very much enjoyed her garden, her large beautiful bouquets of assorted flowers were received by many. But in her final months after surviving her most difficult health problems it was the sight of her cats that would bring a smile to her day.
Sandie was a hard headed, unbelievably stubborn individual who loved us all deeply with that huge generous heart of hers. She was much more important to us than she or we ever realized. She will be deeply missed.
Now a few words for her loving brother George. The one and only person who was always, and I mean always, there for Sandie. Those two were a special team. He understood her when the rest of us didn't. He couldn't stay mad at her when the rest of us could. He stood strong through all the rough waters, always caring and supportive. Always on her side. Loyal and true. Thank you, George, for being there when the rest of us weren't. You are amazing. You too are loved.
Our family would like to thank St.Mary's, UCONN, and the Pines of Bristol for their care during 2020. Your efforts got her back home and gave everyone in our family more time to share with her. A special thank you to all who just recently cared for her at Saint Mary's Hospital. As her final days approached your gentle care and compassion was greatly appreciated, it helped us all to face the unfaceable. Thank you all for truly caring for our Sandie.
Calling hours for Sandra will be on Wednesday evening May 5, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation located at 1987 East Main St & Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT.
