WOODBURY - Mrs. Shirley M. D'Aversa age 82 of Woodbury, passed away peacefully on August 27th 2017 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph D'Aversa.
Shirley was born December 3, 1934 in Oakville, CT, the daughter of the late Paul and Annie (Bellefleur) Michaud. She was educated in local schools and dedicated many years to raising her family before working as a secretary for Frank Talarico and Sons Inc. until her retirement.
She enjoyed volunteering at River Glen Nursing Home in Southbury was a member of the Southbury Columbiette's and a parishioner of Saint Teresa of Avila Church in Woodbury. She also loved music and enjoyed playing and teaching the piano. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother
And friend she will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Among her survivors are her children, Douglas D'Aversa and his wife, Laurene of East Hartford, David D'Aversa and his wife, Teresa of New Haven, Donna Curry of Woodbury, Dawn Porter and her husband, Frank of Plymouth, and Jeffrey D'Aversa and his wife, Jennifer of Woodbury. In addition, she also leaves her seven grandchildren and her sister, Edna Sirois as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert Michaud, Pauline McDonnell, and Leona Weeds.
The D'Aversa family would like to thank and acknowledge all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Harold Leever Cancer, Saint Mary's Hospital Telemetry Unit and the Vitas Hospice Inpatient Unit for all the love and caring support they provided to Shirley and her family during her illness.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. D'Aversa will be held on Friday September 15, 2017 at 10:30am at Saint Teresa of Avila Church 146 Main St North Woodbury. There are no calling hours and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville, has been entrusted to assist the family with the arrangements.
