WATERTOWN - Shirley Marie (Machin) Elwell, age 93, of Watertown passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5th 2020 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Kenneth W. Elwell to whom she was married for over 70 years.
Shirley was born July 15th 1926 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Albert and Susan (Krivi) Machin. She was a graduate of Chase Grammar School and Wilby High School, Class of 1944 and spent many years working as a secretary at Bristol Babcock Co. until her retirement. Shirley was a former parishioner of Saint John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury and spent over 20 years involved with the East End Community Club, Drum Corp. She will be fondly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor her memory and cherish her love and legacy are her son, David A. Elwell and his wife, Janice of Oakville. She was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Erica Morton and her husband, Mitchell of Oakville. She also leaves her niece, Wendy Vargoshe and her husband, Wade of Woodbury. She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara and Beatrice Machin.
The Elwell family would like to thank and acknowledge Doctor Jega as well as all the staff at Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital especially Dr. Tsao for all the love, care and support they provided to Shirley and all of her family during her illness.
Due to the current corona virus guidelines and associated governmental restrictions regarding the pandemic, all services for Mrs. Elwell will be held privately and at the convenience of her family.
