THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF SHIRLEY M. (O'BRIEN) STEISKAL
WATERBURY - Shirley M (O'Brien) Steiskal, age 92 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St Marys Hospital after an extended illness. She was the widow of Richard Steiskal.
Shirley was born on February 19, 1927 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Shutts) O'Brien. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Wilby High School. She also attended Post College and worked both as a salesperson at G. Fox and as an assembler at Airpax where she retired from. What was most important to Shirley throughout her life was her family. She greatly enjoyed family celebrations, birthdays, holidays and parades when all were gathered. Shirley lived life to the fullest and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was a longtime member of SS Peter & Paul Church. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Shirley is survived by her children, daughters; Cathy Minnella and her husband, Joseph and Eileen Kulmann and her husband, Andrew and her sons; Richard and his wife, Connie and Brian and his wife, Vickie all of Naugatuck. She also leaves 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren as well as her brothers, Robert O'Brien of Thomaston and Lawrence O'Brien of Prospect and sisters; Loretta Jorgensen of FL and Karen Ljongquist of Wolcott and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Vitas Innovative Care and Dr. Jega and his staff for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Shirley and shared with her family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Steiskal will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Shirley's family on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, to honor Shirley's memory, contributions may be made to the Williams Syndrome Association 570 Kirts Blvd. Suite 223. Troy, MI 48084-4153
