WATERBURY– Shirley A. (Joy) Violante, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Waterbury Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, with her loving family by her side after an 8-year battle with dementia. She was the widow of James Violante.
Shirley was born August 22, 1931, in Waterbury, the daughter of Charles and Genevieve (Kane) Joy. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School class of 1949. Shirley worked a number of jobs through her years, G Fox and with Dr. John Pulaski, were her favorites. She enjoyed bowling and baking. She was a member of the Madonna Guild, Red Hats, AARP, and the Waterbury Senior Center. She was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Church. Her best time was raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren.
Shirley leaves behind her son, Paul Violante, her two daughters, Karen Marcelynas and Judith (David) Speranzo. Her grandchildren, Stephen, Elda (granddaughter-in-law), Michael (Kami), Arthur Jr. (Amanda) Marcelynas, and Nicole Speranzo. Shirley had 7 great grandchildren, Alina, Amelia, Tyler, Jonah, Giulia, Adelaide, and James. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Nancy (Christos) Violante, her grandson, James Marcelynas, and her brothers, Robert and Charles Joy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at Waterbury Center, especially to Shirley’s private aide, Sharon McNeil, for the compassion and special care she provided to Shirley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Violante will be held privately in the spring. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care has been honored to assist the Violante family during this difficult time.
