OAKVILLE - Stanley E. Sakl age 85 of Oakville, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Regal Health Care Facility of Torrington after an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Lingis) Sakl.
Stanley was born October 6th 1931 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Edward and Mary (Chernauskas) Sakl. Stanley was a graduate of Watertown High School, where he was a star track athlete. He proudly served his country with the US Air Force during the Korean War Conflict and spent over 30 years working as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Stanley was the organizer of the DaVinci Lodge Soccer Team of Waterbury and was an avid UCONN Basketball fan and NY Giants Football fan and enjoyed taking trips to the casino. He was a parishioner of Saint Mary Magdalen Church and a member of the Oakville VFW Post 7330. What brought the greatest joy to Stanley's life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Joan of 59 years, Stanley is survived by his son, Stanley Sakl of Belton, Missouri, his daughter, Sue Sakl Bovat of Oakville, his grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Bovat in addition to many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Alexander Sakl.
Funeral services for Mr. Sakl will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to go directly to the church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Stanley's family on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St., Oakville CT 06779.
