THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING ADN CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF STEPHANIE LANTIERE
OAKVILLE - Stephanie Lantiere, age 65, of Oakville, CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the VITAS Hospice Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Lantiere.
Stephanie was born in Laconia, NH on June 28, 1955, the youngest of three children, daughter of the late James Spiros Gakidis and Ida Mary (Avery) Gakidis. Her family moved to CT in 1968. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1973, and met her future husband, Joseph Lantiere at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, CT in 1977 and they married in 1978. Stephanie received her Degrees in Marketing and Computer Science. She retired after thirty years of service with Southern New England Telephone. Stephanie was active in a number of Family History organizations, including Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club, Connecticut Society of Genealogists, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Daughters of 1812, Mayflower Society, National Society Daughters of the Union 1861-1865, Connecticut Gravestone Network, and Daughters of the American Revolution, taking leadership roles in many of them. From 2006 to the time of her passing, she was President of the Avery Memorial Association in Groton, CT. and was the 10th President of the Association since its beginning in 1895. She was the 3rd female President. She published "The Avery Advocate" an Avery Family Quarterly Newsletter, which ran from 1992 - 2000. In 2001, she published a book: "The Avery Memorial Association - 100 Years of History." and was the Town Historian for Watertown, CT from 2014 to 2019.
Left to honor her legacy and treasure her love and memories, besides her husband, Joseph of 41 years; are her brother, Stephen Gakidis of Oakville, CT, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Salvatore Lantiere of Las Vegas, NV, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Agnes Gleason.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lantiere will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and has been honored to assist the Lantiere family with the arrangements.
