WATERBURY - Stephen Michael Maher, age 63 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Tuesday January 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Virginia (Bavone) Maher.

Stephen was born February 12th 1951 in Waterbury the son of the late William and Mary (Keohan) Maher. Stephen was a lifelong Waterbury resident and graduated from Crosby High School and attended The University of New Haven. He spent many years working as a metallurgist at Somers Brass. Stephen was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, loved playing softball and enjoyed taking trips to VT. He was a frequent guest at Domar's where he would enjoy playing cards. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and always seemed happiest while surrounding himself with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife Virginia of 42 years, Stephen is survived by his sons, Stephen Maher Jr. and his wife Stacey of Boston, Christopher Maher and his wife Rachel of Naugatuck, and David Maher and his wife Tracey of Cheshire. He also leaves a brother, Kevin Maher of FL his sister, Martha Guarino and her husband Pat of Thomaston, his five grandchildren Spencer, Kellen, Shepard, Beckett and Alden as well as his nephew, Michael and his niece, Amy.

Funeral services for Mr. Maher will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 8:30am from Eastside Memorial "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to Saint Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Stephen's family on Thursday evening from 4:00 till 7:00 pm.
