AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME
Watertown Mr. Stephen H. VonTobel, age 79, of Pepperidge Tree Rd., died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 20th. He was the husband of Barbara (Donston) VonTobel.
Mr. VonTobel was born November 10th 1931 in New Haven CT., the son of the late Howard and Freda (Thorne) VonTobel. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in Waterbury and served with the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Monssen where had an opportunity to both serve his country as well as to travel and see the world. After returning from the service, he worked as a foreman at Scovill Manufacturing and eventually retired from Truelove & McClean. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and baseball and loved spending with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Union Congregational Church and volunteered as a pitching coordinator for the Watertown Babe Ruth Baseball League.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Stephen is survived by his son, Howard and his wife Debra of Waterbury, his two daughters, Gloria and her husband James LaFrance of Watertown, and Gail McCleary of Bethlehem, six grandchildren Stephen, Christopher, Jamie, and Ryan LaFrance and Samuel and Kimberly McCleary and two great grandchildren Aiden and Jackson LaFrance. He also leaves three sisters, Lois Carrington of Orleans Cape Cod, Patricia Perrin of Watertown, and Doris Wellnitz of Litchfield as well as many nieces and nephews.
The VonTobel family would like to thank all of the staff of the Watertown VNA Hospice at Home Program especially Allison for the care and special attention they provided during Stephen's illness.
Services for Mr. VonTobel will be held Wednesday November 24th at 11:00a.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Donations in Mr. VonTobel's memory may be made to the Watertown VNA Hospice at Home Program, 27 Princeton Rd.
