THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF SYDNEY STOCKING.
Retired from Southbury Training School
WATERTOWN - Sydney D. Stocking Jr., age 67, of Watertown, passed away at Saint Mary's Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, due to complications from the COVID-19 virus. He was the devoted husband of Janet (Lavoie) Stocking.
Sydney was born on February 25, 1953, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of the late Sydney D. Sr. and Lauretta (Kopp) Stocking. Sydney was raised in the Southbury area and was graduate of Southbury High School class of 1971. He spent 36 years working at Southbury Training School, retiring as a Residential Supervisor in 2010. He was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5066. After retirement, Sydney enjoyed traveling up and down the east coast with his wife, Janet. For several years, the two resided in Cape Coral, Fla., where they shared in great adventures before moving to Reidsville, N.C., and finally returning to live in Watertown in July 2020. Sydney was an accomplished woodworker, self-taught electrician, and enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing, and camping. Sydney was an avid sports fan, following UConn basketball, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants. He also enjoyed spending time at NASCAR races with his brother. What brought the greatest joy to Sydney, however, was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Sydney will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor Sydney's love and legacy, besides his wife Janet of 35 years, are his children: Michael Doring of Southbury; Christopher Doring and his wife, Rebecca, of Cornwall; Mary Ruane and her husband, Colin, of Bristol; and Ashley Perras and her husband, Zachary, of Del Rio, Texas. He also leaves his brother, Paul Stocking Sr. and his wife, Sharon, of Oxford. Janet and Sydney were blessed with two grandchildren, Dahnielle and Logan Doring, as well as three great grandchildren, Hayden, Amelia, and A.J Regalado. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Stocking.
Funeral and burial services for Sydney will be held privately and at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. At the request of the family and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by check/mail to:
