Devoted wife, mother and grandmother
OAKVILLE - Mrs. Sylvia A. Mellon age 92 of Oakville peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her devoted family after an extended illness. She was the widow of William J. Mellon Jr.
Mrs. Mellon was born on June 11, 1928, in Sinclair Maine, the daughter of the late Erny and Lillian (Chasse) Ouellette. She was educated in local schools and worked for many years as an assembler at Litton Mfg. What was most important to Sylvia was her family. Whether just spending time with them, babysitting or sharing a meal Sylvia was always happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a longtime parishioner of St Mary Magdalen Church and she will be fondly remembered and missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor Sylvia's love and legacy are her son, Donald E. Mellon and his wife, Colleen M. of Daleville AL, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Mellon of Murrells Inlet SC and son-in-law Michael Mariano, her siblings; Rita (Frank) Dest, Jacqueline Olmstead, Henry (Judy) Ouellette and John Paul Ouellette and her sister-in-law Karen Ouellette. Sylvia was blessed with 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. Sadly, Sylvia was predeceased by her son, William J. Mellon III, daughter, Sharon Mariano, brothers, Edward Ouellette, Raymond Ouellette and Joseph R. Ouellette, sisters, Regina "Tina" Mannello and Jeanine Mauro.
Funeral Services for Mrs Mellon will be held on Tuesday February 9, 2021 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary Magdalen Church 16 Buckingham St Oakville CT at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Sylvia's family on Tuesday morning from 9:30 till 10:30 a.m. for a walk-through visitation only at O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St Oakville, CT 06779. All protocols for COVID 19 in effect will be strictly enforced.
