CHESHIRE -Terrence "Terry" F. Dowling Jr. age 91 of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden after a brief illness. He was the widower of Jean A. Dowling.
Terrence was born February 4, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Terrence and Florence (Cassidy) Dowling. He graduated from Saints Peter & Paul Grammar School and Leavenworth High School, Class of 1949 and received his Associates Degree in Business at Post Junior College. Terry proudly served his country with the United States Navy for three and a half years during World War II. Terrence spent many years working for the Town of Fairfield as the Zoning Enforcement Administrator until his retirement. Terry was an outdoorsman who loved nature and enjoyed camping, and canoeing but what was most important to him, was his family. He always placed his family first and was a loving father, husband, and grandfather who was kind, generous and fair to all. He was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Fairfield and at the time of his passing was a parishioner of the First Congregational Church of Waterbury.
Terrence is survived by his children; Robin D. Griskus of Wolcott, Darryl S. Dowling of Newport, RI, Dana T. Dowling and his wife, Andrea Taroli MD of Carlisle, PA, and Stacey Behboudi of Fairfield. He also leaves seven grandchildren, his great granddaughter and his sister, Mary Lindsay of Wolcott as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son in law, Patrick Griskus and his siblings, James Dowling, Eugene Dowling, and Barbara Cotton.
Funeral Services for Mr. Dowling will be held on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at 11:00 am at First Congregational Church of Waterbury 222 West Main St Waterbury, CT Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Terry's family at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Road Waterbury on Friday, September 15,2017 from 5:00 ~ 7:00pm.
