WATERTWON - Thomas " Tom" B. Begley age 79 of Watertown passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday January 20th 2019. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Curley) Begley
Tom was born October 29th 1939 the son of the late Thomas C. and Mary E. (Erwin) Begley. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and proudly served his country with the US Army from 1958 to 1961 and was stationed in Germany. Tom worked for Foster Associates retiring as a foreman after 40 years of service. He enjoyed reading, traveling and camping with his wife and family and was an avid UCONN women's basketball fan, Tom was an extremely active member of the Waterbury Elks Club for over 52 years where he was a participant in many of the clubs activities and leagues including the bowling, setback, cribbage, and golf. He was also a long time member of the American Legion Post 001 in Waterbury. Tom also enjoyed working outdoors and was a annual volunteer for the Saint Mary Magdalen Team for Homefront The greatest joy for Tom was spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife Judy of 52 years, Tom is survived by his sons Thomas C. Begley and his wife Carrie of Freeport ME, Brian Begley of Branford, and Kevin Begley of Wallingford. In Addition he leaves his sisters Eleanor Hada of Hawaii, Barbara Begley of Plymouth and "his buddy" Cheryl Knott and her husband Wayne of T.N. He also leaves his 6 adoring grandchildren, Thomas, Abbey, Brenna, Carina, Steven and Olivia. Thomas also leaves his camping partners, friends, and in-laws, Peggy & Alden English, Ed & Shirl Curley, Barbara & Bob Cosgrove, Jan Curley & Ed Perlman. He is predeceased by his sister Dolores Zanavich and Joan Breton.
Funeral services for Mr. Begley will be held on Friday, January 25th 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 16 Buckingham St Oakville, Ct 06779 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Tom's family on Thursday evening, January 24th 2019 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m at O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville, Ct 06779. In Lieu of flowers donations in Thomas's memory can be made to the Watertown Library Woodward Atrium expansion at Watertown Library, 470 Main Street, Watertown, CT 06795-2613.
