A MAN OF HONOR, INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE & COURAGE
OAKVILLE - Thomas Edward Cahill Jr, age 69, of Oakville passed away peacefully on Friday August 6th 2021 at Saint Mary's Hospital, Vitas Innovative Care Unit surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a courageous five year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Paula (LaFauci) Cahill.
Thomas was born December 2nd 1951 in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Thomas and Jane (Catalano) Cahill. He was raised and educated in Torrington and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Thomas spent a few years working for the United States Post Office and then began working various manufacturing jobs throughout the state. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and duck pin bowling with the love of his life, Paula and they received many awards and trophies while playing on several leagues. He enjoyed cooking and was a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening especially with his children and granddaughter. Thomas loved to take on little arts and crafts and science projects with his granddaughter, SophiaLeigh, whom he referred to as "his little best friend". He was always happiest while spending time with her, his beloved wife, Paula and his children. Thomas was a member of the Torrington Knights of Columbus and will be remembered as a man of honor, integrity, knowledge and courage.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, besides the love of his life of 40 years, Paula, are his children; Ryan Cahill and Michelle Cahill both of Oakville, his granddaughter, SophiaLeigh Cahill as well as his children from a previous marriage; Thomas Cahill III and Valerie Cahill and their children. In addition, he also leaves his brother, Daniel Cahill of Burlington and his sister, Helen Piechocki and her husband, Edward of New Hartford and their 2 children. He was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Rushlow.
Funeral services for Mr. Cahill will be held on Monday August 16th at 12:00 Noon at O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville CT, followed by military honors at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may visit with Tom's family on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m until the time of the service at noon. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. We are very concerned about everyone's health and safety, due to the increase rise in the Delta variant of Covid 19 in the Connecticut area and are requesting all visitors to wear a mask to assure a safe, orderly and comfortable environment to express your support to the Cahill family Memories last only if you share them, so you are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort or personal memory with the Cahill family on Thomas' tribute page at www.oneillfuneralhome.com .
