U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major

WATERBURY – Thomas Anthony Colangelo, age 78, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 28, 2023, at the River Glenn Health Care Center in Southbury after an extended illness.

Thomas was born June 12, 1944, in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Thomas Colangelo Jr. and Camille (D’Angelo) Colangelo. He was a graduate of Croft High School, Class of 1962, and then attended the Connecticut School of Electronics. He worked as a Navigation Gyroscope Technician for Timex Corporation before entering the U.S. Army National Guard. While serving with the Guard, he attended many training schools throughout the United States. He worked his way through the ranks and finally attended the Sergeant Major Academy in El Paso, Texas. He ended his 37-year Army career as a Command Sergeant Major for the Connecticut National Guard at the Hartford State Armory. He then returned to the Guard as a civilian, working in the capacity of Security EES Technician, until he became ill in September of this past year.

Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his former wife, but very good friend Diane Colangelo, his sons Alan Colangelo, Bryan Colangelo and his wife, Lisa; Craig Colangelo and his wife, Tiffany; his daughter, Juliann Colangelo and her partner Donnell Duggans as well as his four grandchildren; Thomas, Alyssa, and Giuliana Colangelo and Alana Duggans He also leaves his two sisters; Gloria Gee and Jean Colangelo.

Funeral Services for Mr. Colangelo will be held on Friday February 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and Friends may visit with the Colangelo family on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St. Waterbury, CT 06705.
