Loving Husband and father 

PROSPECT, CT – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Thomas J Galvin, share the news of his unexpected passing on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Apple Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. He was the loving husband of Linda (Boughton) Galvin.

Tom was born September 16, 1948, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Thomas Galvin Sr and Margaret (Moran) Galvin. Tom was a proud graduate of Crosby High School, and he pursued further education at the American Institute of Banking, earning several certificates that would enhance his career. Over the years, Tom devoted himself to the banking industry, dedicating his skills and talents as an IT Research and Planning Assistant Vice President for prestigious institutions such as: F.D.I.C., Colonial Bank, Center Bank, and Green Point Bank. He eventually retired as Vice President of Operations at Open Solutions, leaving a legacy of excellence and dedication. An athlete at heart, Tom took great joy in playing softball, basketball, bowling and was an active member of various leagues throughout the area. He belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernians Monsignor Slocum Div # 1 (AOH), The Olympian Club, Elks Club Lodge #265, and the Saturday Morning Fantasy Sports “League” where he built lasting friendships and shared countless stories. A true sports enthusiast, Tom passionately supported the Boston Celtics and Red Soxs relishing in the thrill of basketball, especially during a memorable moment when he had the chance to play with his idol, John Havlicek, at a fantasy basketball camp. Tom's civic spirit shone brightly as he served as the former Chairman of the Prospect Republican Town Committee and generously volunteered for many charitable causes, most notably the (family) annual Special Olympics golf tournament. His kindness and dedication to his community will be deeply missed. Traveling brought Tom immense joy, especially when exploring Ireland and embarking on various cruises with his beloved wife, Linda, their children, and friends, Together they created a tapestry of experiences enriched by love and adventure. Above all, Tom treasured the moments spent with his family, particularly playing basketball or a tea party with his grandchildren, reminding us all of the importance of family bonds and shared laughter. Tom Galvin was a “giant” of everything good; humility, integrity , generosity and a true Irish spirit. May he rest in the loving embrace of our Lord.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife of 43 years are his children; Brian Galvin of Myrtle Beach SC; Shannon Nicholson of Middle River, MD; and Sean Galvin of Prospect CT. He also leaves his grandchildren Patrick, Joseph, Peyton Nicholson and Jayna Galvin, his sister in law Helen (Kerry) Donovan, and brother in law William (Gail) Boughton, along with his nephews Robert (Erin) DiCarlo, Daniel (Jodi) Boughton and Michael (Julie) Boughton. Besides his family, Tom leaves his lifelong friend, Jerry Miller, with whom he visited McBrides Pizza so often, the restaurant named the Tom and Jerry Pizza after them.

 Funeral services for Mr. Galvin will be held on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St., Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of his family. Relatives and friends may visit with Tom’s family on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury.
