Thomas Hackett

July 12, 1952 — June 17, 2015

WATERBURY - Thomas "Tom" Francis Hackett, age 62 passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Tom was born July 12, 1952 in Waterbury, the son of Francis "Frank" and Eleanor (Midgely) Hackett. By outward appearances, Tom lived a difficult life. Born with cerebral palsy, he was never able to walk, talk or participate in the basic pleasures of life. In spite of his physical limitations, Tom led a very happy and full life. He was very interested in politics and earned the right to vote. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Yankees and NY Giants. There was no getting his attention when he was watching a Yankees game. Tom joined his family on many summer vacations to the shore where he enjoyed going in the ocean. Tom also pursued his education at Mattatuck Community College.

All who loved Tom, benefited greatly by having him in our lives. He taught us that no matter how difficult life was, you needed to make the most of it. Through him, we all learned to appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
After being raised in Waterbury, Tom spent the past 20 years as a resident of a group home in Wolcott. There he participated in many activities including trips to concerts, casinos and sporting events. He had many friends and caregivers who were an extended part of his life. Tom's family is grateful for all the love they provided to him as his extended family. In particular, his family would like to thank, Gloria Bailey for her extraordinary kindness.

Besides his parents of Waterbury, Tom was the devoted brother of Karen (Bob Carlisle) Hackett of Chicago IL, Terrance (Sandra) Hackett of St Pete Beach FL and Brian Hackett of Plantsville CT. He also leaves two nieces, Lorraine Hackett and Marissa Hackett Pierson and two nephews, Justin and Ryan Hackett and one great nephew Jayden Serencko.
