AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
Waterbury. Mr. Thomas J. Kelly, Jr. age 84, of Nottingham Terrace, Waterbury, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the widow of Edna B. (Aunchmann) Kelly.
Mr. Kelly was born on June 7th, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Thomas J. Kelly Sr. and Bertha Taylor Kelly. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. As a plank owner to the USS Irex Submarine. Tom was a toolmaker with Scovill Mfg for 43 years before retiring in 1984. Tom loved baseball and played with the Waterville AC under George Laurie and Bobby Greatoux. He was scouted and attended MLB tryouts for the St Louis Cardinals and he passed his love of the game to many area youngsters coaching ball for the Waterville Red Sox Little League. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a lifetime member of both the Thomaston Fish & Game, as well as the NRA. He was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his son, Daniel P. Kelly of Bowie, MD, 4 daughters; Kathleen Gugliotti of Waterbury, Eileen Price of Overland Park, KS, Sharon Kelly-Levesque of Thomaston, and Annie Kelly-Smida of Arlington, MA, as well as 13 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Thomas J. Kelly, III.
Funeral services with full military honors for Mr. Kelly will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 9:00 am from The Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St. Waterbury, CT. to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the New Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00pm.
