Santa Cruz CA. Mr. Thomas Ouellette, age 69, of Santa Cruz CA and formerly of Waterbury, died Saturday in Santa Cruz after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carolyn (Ensign) Ouellette.
Tom was born on April 14,1939 in Waterbury, the son of the late Rosario (Timmy) & Antoinette (Heroux) Ouellette. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended St. Michael's College in Winooski Vermont before enlisting in the US Army in 1961. He was assigned to 76th US Army Security Division and he served in Taiwan and Vietnam. Upon his discharge in 1964, he relocated to the Lake Tahoe area and then pursued his degree at UC Berkeley and UC Riverside where he earned his BS in education and teaching credentials. He then moved to Phoenix Arizona where he was employed managing restaurants in the hospitality industry. In 1985, he settled in Santa Cruz and was employed at Ace Hardware on Mission St as well as doing home remodeling until he retired recently. Tom loved to play golf and played often with his regular foursome. He was also very fond of bridge, chess, crossword puzzles, and sports of all kinds.
Besides his loving wife Carolyn of 18 years, Tom leaves his stepdaughters, Cindy James of Boulder Creek, CA and Michelle Cesario of Millbrae, CA., his brother, Rev. Richard T. Ouellette MM of Monrovia, CA; three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Mitchell of Melbourne, Fl, Mrs Claire DeBellis and her husband John of Upland, CA and Mrs. Gertrude Pryor and her husband Art of Waterbury, Ct., as well as many nieces and nephews. His two sisters, Sr. Blanche Ouellette RSM and Mrs. Dorothy Casey, preceeded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Ouellette will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008 in Monrovia CA with a Mass to be celebrated by his brother, Rev. Richard Ouellette. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in California.
In Waterbury, a Memorial Mass will also be celebrated on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:30am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St. Waterbury. Memorial donations in Tom's memory may be made to: The Maryknoll Sisters, 340 Norumbega Dr. Monrovia, CA 91016 or your favorite charity.
