Thomas Samuel Watson Jr., 68, of Waterbury CT and South Ozone Park NY passed away on May 26, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury CT, after a long illness. He was born October 10,1948 in Harlem Hospital NYC to Thomas and Roberta Watson.
Tom was a passionate sports fan. He was also a sprinter and hurdler in track and field throughout high school at Thomas A. Edison HS in Queens NY, received a scholarship to the University of New Mexico in track but decided to serve his country instead in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in South Korea on the DMZ during the Vietnam War.
Tom worked as an ambulance driver for Harlem Hospital in NYC, from there pursuing a career in electrical engineering and radar technology working for Sperry Rand/Unisys Corp. and Teradyne Corp. for over twenty-five years with distinction.
Tom was also active in several softball teams, winning the 1976 IRA Industrial League Championship with Wheeler Electronics; was on several bowling leagues, and was an accomplished dart player, winning numerous titles. He loved to cook and was exceptional at hosting get-togethers for family and friends. His custom dishes and recipes will be missed.
Tom was a loving and proud father of his son TR, daughter-in-law Almarie and grandsons Matthew, Marquis, Malik, Camron and Dominic of Waterbury CT.
He is survived by his mother Roberta Watson, sister Denise Watson of South Ozone Park, NY, sister Teresa Frazier of Boston MA, and ex-wife Patricia Watson of Waterbury, CT, sister-in-law Gwendolyn McFadden of Greenville, SC and brother-in-law Omar Hill of Browns Mills NJ, nephews Jerome Watson Jr, Charron Watson, Herbert Jackson, John (JJ) Jackson Jr., and John Hill., nieces Shondea Watson, LaKeisha Watson, Renee Jackson, Tina Jackson, Tanika Wilson, Omara Smith, Nia Hill, Ife Hill, Nubian Hill.
Tom is pre-deceased by father Thomas Watson Sr, brother Jerome Watson and sister-in-law Diane Wilson-Hill.
Special friends to be acknowledged are Via and Dom Garafola, Tony and Paula Orsini, Katrina Knight, Pat Daigle, John Rodrigues. and countless extended family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown, CT at 1:00 PM. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with Mr. Watson's care. Expressions of condolences may be made at this website:
