WATERBURY - Venudilda "Venus" (Martelo) Allen, age 77 of Washington Avenue died peacefully in the morning of August 18, 2016 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York after a strong, brave battle with lung cancer. She was the wife of the late Michael James Allen, whom she cared for for many years.
Venus was born in Cordoba, Colombia on January 18, 1939. She was the 6th child (of 10) of the late Pedro and Fermina (Morelo) Martelo and had lived in Waterbury since 1987.
She had a deep appreciation for nature and animals, loved to dance and above all, was dedicated to and loved her family.
Venus is survived by her son Michael Allen of Watertown; daughter Victoria Allen-Raia of New York; grandchildren, Alisa, Michael and Alessandra and a large extended family including 3 sisters and 2 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing and funeral services for Venus will be held on Wednesday August 24, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. respectively at the O'Neill Funeral Home; 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.
