WATERBURY - Verletha Simmons., age 74, fondly known by all as; lovi Bea, Nema and Memo, a longtime Bridgeport resident, transitioned peacefully on December 27th, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Verletha was born in Ocala, Florida, on July 1, 1950, the daughter of the late Louis (LJ)Simmons and Minnie Raiford Simmons. Verletha grew up in Ocala, Florida and relocated to Connecticut at a early age. Once she relocated to Connecticut she grew up on the North End of Bridgeport and was well known. She attended and graduated from Central High School. Verletha relocated back to Florida in 1996 and relocated back to Connecticut in 2024. She was a mom before anything else. Verletha always opened her doors and would always feed and take care of a lot of people and kids in the neighborhood. To know her was to love her. She has always put her children and their needs first and foremost. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know and love her. The light of the Lord shined through Verletha to brighten this world. May she now enjoy everlasting rest and peace.
Verletha is survived by her two faithful and devoted daughters, Clarissa (Lady) Bridgeforth of Ocala, FL. Tashanika (Tasha) Jones of Bridgeport, CT., eight grandchildren, Robert Reid III, RaQuashia Green, Rafael Jones Jr., RaNasia Jones, Reggie Snowden, T’Shaun Bridgeforth, Clarence Bridgeforth III and Ayshia Bridgeforth. She has fourteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bernice Williams of Connecticut, Francine Crowell of Georgia, a brother William Kennedy of Florida and several bonus children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,cousins and friends. Verletha was predeceased by her father Louis (LJ) Simmons and mother Minnie Simmons, two sons Clarence Bridgeforth Jr. and Terrence Bridgeforth Sr., two grand children Terrence Bridgeforth Jr. and JaQuishia Bridgeforth. Mere words could never be enough to express our family’s appreciation to all of those involved in our Mom’s care. Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 12:00 noon Casey’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705 with Bishop Kelly Edge, presiding. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the service commences at 12:00 noon, Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence and share a memory or words of comfort with the family and friends of someone who was important to you.
