WATERBURY - Virginia A. Giordano of Waterbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 15, 2014 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of Frederick Giordano.

Virginia was born on May 12th in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Rocco and Teresa (Laurino) Abbondandolo and was educated in local schools. She spent many years working in the manufacturing industry retiring from Lakewood Metal Products in Waterbury in 1979 after the birth of her granddaughter. She enjoyed trips to the casino and watching professional wrestling but her passion was providing for her family and she impressed the value of education upon her children. She loved to cook her homemade ravioli, cookies, or holiday fruit cakes for her friends and family and loved to visit her family in Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the Waterbury Senior Center and a Parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church.

Virginia's family would like to thank the caring staff and nurses at Saint Mary's Hospital, The Vitas Inpatient Unit at Saint Mary's as well as all the staff at Village at East Farms for the wonderful care provided to Virginia.

Among her survivors are her children: Felix Giordano, and his wife Bette of Ashford, Cynthia O'Bar, and her husband John of Wolcott; her brother Anthony Abbond, of Vero Beach Fl; and her three grandchildren Lisa Nadolny and her husband Jeffrey, Jeffrey Giordano and his wife Roshani, and Christopher O'Bar as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings, Charles, Joseph, Frank, Michael, and Fred Abbondandolo, and her sister, Mary Guida. Funeral Services for Mrs. Giordano will be held on Monday, October 20th 2014at 8:30am from Eastside Memorial "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to Saints Peter and Paul Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Friends and Relatives may visit with Virginia's family on Sunday, October 19th 2014 from 4:00 ~ 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Virginia's memory may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Church Development Fund at 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury, CT 06705
