Loving Mother and Grandmother

 WATERBURY — It is with deep sorrow that the family of Virginia Rose Hotchkiss, age 100, of Waterbury, announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, and sister. She passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, after a brief illness at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. She was the widow of Edward R. Hotchkiss. 

 Virginia was born on June 7, 1924, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William and Marie (Murphy) Church. She lived a remarkable life defined by her deep commitment to her family, faith, and community. A proud graduate of Wilby High School, Virginia dedicated herself to her roles as a loving wife and devoted homemaker. Virginia worked part-time at the former Lowe's Poli Theater, now known as the Palace Theater, where she delighted in selling tickets and concessions. She also served as a utility clerk at the former Holland Hughes department store. A long-time parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church, Virginia, was known for her active participation in church activities. Her greatest joy came from cooking and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will resonate through generations. As we reflect on the beautiful life of Virginia Rose Hotchkiss, let us remember her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family. May she rest in eternal peace. Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children Edward Hotchkiss and his Maria of Waterbury, Thomas Hotchkiss and his partner Ginger of FL, David Hotchkiss and his wife Patricia of Thomaston, Brian Hotchkiss and his fiancé Sue of Litchfield, Carolyn Burt and her late husband Gary of Meriden as well as her 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Theresa Hatch and Rita Dwyer and Agetha Tanner and her brother Robert Church

 Funeral services for Mrs. Hotchkiss will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours.
