Walter "Buddy" C. Ericsson, age 80, of Essex Ave Waterbury, died Friday October 9, 2009 at Waterbury Hospital after an extended illness. He was the husband of Patricia "Betty" (Miller) Ericsson.

Mr. Ericsson was born May 4th 1929 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Earl & Myrtle (Knowles) Ericsson. He attended Leavenworth High School and served with the US Marines Corp during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded several awards and decorations including the distinguished Purple Heart. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Buddy worked as a mail clerk at the Grand Street downtown Post Office for many years. He was an avid golfer and member of the 19th hole golf league. He was a sports enthusiast and avid Boston Red Sox and NY Giants fan. Walter was always willing to help his friends and was willing to do just about anything for any of them, earning him the nick name "Buddy" by his many friends.

Besides his wife Betty of 43 years, he is survived by his three daughters; Karen and her husband John Pesillo of Waterbury, Sharon and her husband Edwin Smith of Terryville and Carol and her husband Jody Grosso of Middletown, his sister Elizabeth Johnson of Plymouth. He also leaves his grandchildren Ashley and C.J. Smith, Nicole Messier, Tiersa and Katie Pesillo and Joseph Grosso as well as several Nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Earl W. Ericsson Jr.


A graveside funeral service with full military honors, will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 11:00 a.m. at the West Side Cemetery (10 Carter Rd) Plymouth, Ct. Visiting hours for Mr. Ericsson will be held Monday October 12th from 5-7p.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St. Oakville CT.
