WATERBURY - Mr. Walter Lewis, age 82, of Waterbury, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Saint Mary's Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Doyle) Lewis.

Walter was born in New Haven on February 27, 1931, the son of the late Louis Houle and Martha (O'Neil) Houle. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Walter was a Master Carpenter employed by Long Hill Lumber and most recently O & G Industries. A devout Catholic, Walter was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus in Southbury and Waterbury in the Sheridan Council. He was a recipient of the Bronze Pelican Award from the Boy Scouts of America and he and his wife shared the Rev. John Blanchfield Family Service Award from Sacred Heart High School. He was also a frequent volunteer at Sacred Heart High School. Walter led a selfless life, dedicated to faith and his extended family. His family was his most important priority and he was a devoted grandfather attending all of their various sporting activities. He was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Walter leaves behind his adoring wife Betty, of 57 years, his daughter, Mary Zasada and her husband Peter of Bethlehem and his three sons, David and his wife Janice of Bowdoinham ME, Richard and his wife Janet of Waterbury and Michael and his wife Susan of Farmington. He also leaves a brother, William Houle of Ocala FL and a sister, Shirley Norris-Lawlor of Watertown as well as his beloved grandchildren, Kathleen, Andrew, Margaret, Ryan and Morgan and several caring nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 9:30 am from Eastside Memorial, A Casey Family Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Rites of committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
