"Devoted to his family"

WATERBURY - Walter Burr Smith Jr. age 70 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 22nd 2020 at Saint Mary's Hospital due complications from the COVID #19 virus. He was the husband of Sue Ann (Hryniewicki) Smith .

Walter was born on May 23rd 1950 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Walter Burr and Jean (Ptaszynski) Smith Sr. Walter was a lifelong Waterbury resident and attended Crosby High School prior to joining the U.S. Marines where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War Era. Walter was a carpenter by trade and spent more than 20 years working as a building maintainer for the Cheshire Department of Education until his retirement. Walter was proud of his military service and was a true patriot. There was nothing that would bring greater joy to Walter then spending time with his family. He was always the first one to help out when it came to preparing and setting up the party and he was always happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Left to honor Walter's memory and legacy, besides his wife of 47 years Sue, are his children; daughter, Dawn Garraffo and her husband, Tom of Watertown and their children; Jessica and Jenna, and his son, Walter B. Smith III and his wife, Amber of Waterbury and their children; Manny and Jaxson. In addition, he also leaves his sisters; Gail Boulanger and her husband, Ronald of FL, Marlene Wentworth and her husband, Charlie of Prospect, and Kathy Mauriello of FL, He also leaves his sister-in-law Connie Brennan of Wolcott and Sister-in-law Betty Ann McCann of Waterbury, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends. He was predeceased by his sister. Judith Boulanger. .

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held privately and at the convenience of his family. Walter will be buried with full military honors in All Saint Cemetery, Waterbury. A walkthrough visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 1:00 - 3:00p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705. All governmental guidelines regarding the COVID 19 pandemic will be strictly enforced.
