WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved, Wilbur “Pete” Wright, age 91, on August 17, 2023 at the Hospital of Central CT. He was the beloved husband of Gladys Johnson Wright for 68 wonderful years.
Wilbur was born in Florence, SC the son of the late Charlie and Nancy Harvin Wright. Wilbur was a Wilsonian, class of 1951, Florence SC. Wilbur was drafted for the U.S. Army and spent 14 years as a tank commander. He had 3 tours abroad and numerous assignments in the United States where his family was able to accompany him. He retired from United Technology after 25 years as a machinist. Wilbur was a working family man and was always engaged with his family. He enjoyed taking his wife, son, and grandchildren on vacation and working around the house with them. He migrated to Waterbury, CT in 1966. Wilbur enjoyed traveling, jazz concerts, and old western movies. Wilbur “Pete” Wright was a loving, caring, and giving person who will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Wilbur loved his family and friends, and leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Gladys Johnson Wright, of the home, one son, Sean Wright, Sr. of Waterbury, CT, 2 grandsons, Sean Wright Jr., and Quintin (Talashia) Wright of Waterbury, CT, daughter-in law, Angie Johnson of Atlanta, GA, 3 sisters, Katie Wright Bethea of Florence, SC, Annie Mae Wright McCrae of Brooklyn, NY, Dora Wright Lyde of Durham, NC, sister-in-law, Beverly Johnson Douglas of Florence, SC. a devoted nephew, Gordon McCrae, of Brooklyn, NY along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends. Wilbur is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Harvin Wright, brother, Bert Pete Wright Sr., his father, Charlie Wright, and sister, Ella Wright McCants.
Funeral services for Mr Wright will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street Waterbury, CT. Burial with full military honors will follow in the State of CT, Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane Middletown. Relatives and friends may visit with the Wright family on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the service commences at 10:00 a.m. Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you.
