OAKVILLE - William W. "Bill" Black Jr., age 63 of Oakville, passed away unexpectedly at Waterbury Hospital on Friday, May 26, 2017. He was the husband of Maryann Massengill- Black (Mauriello).
Bill was born March 18, 1954 in Waterbury, CT, the son of William W. Black Sr. of Oakville and the late Catherine (Cashman) Black. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and received his Associates Degree in Marketing from Post College. Bill spent over 30 years working as a route sales driver for the Hostess/Wonder Bread Company before his retirement. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local #677 of Waterbury. After his retirement, he worked as a custodian at Blessed Sacrament Church and School. He was an avid stock car racing fan and was a driver and stock car owner. He loved camping and spending time with his family and his two beloved dogs, Sadie and Cooper. Bill was always helping others in need and was an active volunteer with HomeFront, an organization that helped make free repairs to low income households. Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his wife of 15 years, Maryann and his father, Bill is survived by his son, William Black III of Thomaston, and his daughter, Kelsie Massengill of Naugatuck, as well as his sister, Doreen Black and his special companions, Sadie and Cooper in addition to many friends and extended family members.
Funeral services for Mr. Black will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church 16 Buckingham St. Oakville, CT at 9:00a.m. Those planning on attending are kindly asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Bill's family on Wednesday evening, May 31, 2017 at The O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Memorial contributions in Bill's name can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N.
