Remembering and honoring the life of William "Bill" Greene Sr.

Devoted to his family and his faith

WOODBURY - William T. Greene, Sr. 81, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children on April 4, 2022 after an extended battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Mary E. Greene (O'Sullivan) for 56 years.

Bill was born in Waterbury, on October 21, 1940, the son of the late Anne (Roche) and John R. Greene. He attended Sacred Heart grammar school and Sacred Heart high school. Bill was a devout Catholic, a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception where his generosity helped with the restoration of several projects at the Basilica. Bill was a big fan of UConn basketball, NHL Hockey and enjoyed playing golf at East Mountain. Bill would often be found in his yard taking care of his manicured lawn during his free time. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a distinguished retiree of the United Parcel Service where he was employed for 34 years. A devoted, husband, father and grandfather Bill was always happiest when surrounded by his loving family. Bill lived life to the fullest blessed by his faith, family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy. besides his wife, Mary, are his daughter, Christine Sonsini and her husband, John of Derby, his son, William T. Greene, Jr. and his wife, Maureen (Griffin) of Naugatuck, his daughter, Colleen Nemec and her husband, Bill of Prospect, and his beloved grandchildren; Addison Sonsini, Will Greene, Johnny Greene, Jameson Nemec and Nora Nemec. He also leaves behind his brother, Jack Greene and his wife, Shirley of Wolcott, Edward Greene and his wife, Denise of Longs, SC. and sisters-in-law; Judy Greene and Karen Greene. He was predeceased by his brother, James Greene and his wife, Joann (Galvin) of Saugus, CA., and his twin brother, Robert Greene of Longs, SC.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to Yeuming Chang, MD and all of the wonderful nurses and staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center for the care and love they shared with Bill and his family during his illness.


Funeral services for Mr Greene will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are asking to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Greene family on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. To honor Bill's memory donations to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Renovation fund or to the Harold Lever Cancer Center at 1075 Chase Parkway Waterbury, Ct 06708 would be appreciated by his family.
