THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM "BILL" BLACK
WATERTOWN - William W. "Bill" Black, Sr.,- age 85, of Watertown, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on June 22 , 2020 with his daughter, Doreen, and niece, Nancy Geary, by his side. He was married to the late Catherine Black for 46 years.
Bill was born on October 9, 1934 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Henry and Edith (Schwenterly) Black. He attended Slocum School and graduated from Leavenworth High School. During his youth, Bill enjoyed spending time at the family farm of his friend, Adolph Pecka.
Bill spent many years working as a diesel mechanic, retiring from Atlantic Detroit Diesel at the age of 72. He enjoyed working on his brother and son's race cars when they raced at Plainville Stadium. He also enjoyed exhibiting his antique cars and truck.
The Black family would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Stephen Rubenstein and his staff for the excellent care and support they provided to Bill for many years.
Left to cherish his legacy and honor his love and memories are his daughter, Doreen, with whom he made his home, his daughter-in-law, Maryann Black, grandson, William Black, III, granddaughter Kelsie Massengill, brother-in-law, Jack Geary as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, William Black, Jr. who he missed dearly and spoke about every day. He was also predeceased by his brothers; Robert and Harry Black and sisters; Marjorie Altieri and Barbara Geary.
A private burial will be held at the family's convenience with burial in Mt Olivet Cemetery. To honor Bill's memory, donations are encouraged to the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department.
