Middlebury - William J. Devino, age 70 of Wilmington VT passed away peacefully after a brief illness, at the home of his brother in Middlebury, surrounded by the comfort of his family.
William was born January 22nd 1944 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Paul and Kathryn (Eagan) Devino. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School "Class of 1961" and continued his studies at Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Saint Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as Fairfield
University in Fairfield, Connecticut, where he earned his two Masters Degrees in Theology, Secondary Education. William was a Sulpician priest and spent over 30 years as an educator. He taught at St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore, Washington, Carol College in Helena, Montana and spent many years at
Whitingham School in Wilmington, Vermont where he was awarded Vermont Teacher of the Year, four years in a row. William loved his students and had a passion for teaching. He was always willing to help any of his students that were struggling by providing them individual instruction assisting them to achieve their goals. He loved literature, and enjoyed reading, watching old movies, and traveling. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to surround himself with family and friends while singing, laughing, and playing
the piano.
Among his survivors William leaves his brother, Ralph "Buzzy" Devino of Middlebury, his nieces and nephews: Michael Devino, and William Devino of Middlebury, Monica Devino-Donofrio and her husband Steven of Shelton, Susan Devino-Moriarty and her husband Michael of Waterbury, Kathryn Harnish and her husband George of Middlebury and Patricia Hall and her husband David of Orange. 10:00a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St Waterbury, CT 06708 followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours.
